Mesotherapy and PRP skin treatment by Dr. Inaam Faiq in Dubai
Is It For You?

For skin that's thirsty, tired or thinning.

These are the treatments Dr. Inaam reaches for when skin needs feeding and repairing rather than filling or resurfacing:

Dull, dehydrated skin Fine lines & early ageing Under-eye area Hair thinning Post-acne healing Glow before an event

Each chip opens a WhatsApp chat about that exact concern — Dr. Inaam will tell you honestly whether this treatment is the right answer for you.

Why Dr. Inaam

What goes into the syringe matters as much as where it goes.

Mesotherapy is only as good as its cocktail and its placement — Dr. Inaam formulates per patient: hyaluronic acid, vitamins, amino acids and peptides matched to what your skin actually lacks, injected at the correct micro-depth across the treatment zone.

PRP adds your own biology: blood is drawn, spun to concentrate the platelets, and returned to the skin or scalp where growth factors trigger genuine repair. Nothing foreign, no allergy risk — and in her hands, precise placement where regeneration is needed most.

How Mesotherapy and PRP Work: Two Distinct Sciences

Two of the most frequently requested treatments in my clinic operate on fundamentally different biological principles, yet both share a common philosophy: delivering therapeutic agents precisely where the body needs them most. Understanding the science behind mesotherapy and PRP helps my patients appreciate why these treatments produce the results they do — and why I often recommend them in combination.

Mesotherapy: Precision Delivery to the Mesoderm

Mesotherapy was developed by the French physician Dr. Michel Pistor in 1952. His original insight was elegant in its simplicity: rather than relying on systemic delivery — where an oral supplement or topical cream must navigate multiple biological barriers before reaching its target — why not inject active ingredients directly into the tissue layer where they are needed? The technique takes its name from the mesoderm, the middle embryological layer from which skin, connective tissue, and blood vessels derive.

In clinical practice, mesotherapy involves delivering customised cocktails of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, hyaluronic acid, and other bioactive compounds directly into the middle layer of skin, typically at a depth of one to four millimetres. This approach bypasses the epidermal barrier entirely — the same barrier that limits the efficacy of even the most expensive topical serums. By injecting at the mesodermal level, we achieve therapeutic concentrations of active ingredients exactly where cellular processes occur, something no cream or oral supplement can replicate with the same precision.

The cocktails I use are tailored to each patient's specific concern. For skin rejuvenation, a typical formulation might include:

  • Hyaluronic acid — provides deep hydration by attracting and binding water molecules within the dermal matrix, restoring the plumpness and luminosity that dehydrated skin lacks
  • Vitamins (C, B complex, E) — support essential cellular functions including antioxidant defence, energy metabolism, and collagen synthesis cofactor activity
  • Minerals (zinc, selenium, magnesium) — drive enzymatic processes critical to skin repair, cell turnover, and protection against oxidative stress
  • Amino acids (glycine, proline, lysine) — serve as the fundamental building blocks for collagen and elastin synthesis, the structural proteins that maintain skin firmness and elasticity

For hair restoration, the approach shifts to target the hair follicle directly. Mesotherapy cocktails designed for the scalp deliver nutrients that support and stimulate the hair growth cycle — particularly the anagen (active growth) phase. By nourishing the dermal papilla and perifollicular vasculature, we can help extend the growth phase and improve the calibre and density of existing hair.

PRP: Harnessing Your Body's Own Repair Mechanisms

Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy operates on an entirely different principle. Rather than introducing external active ingredients, PRP concentrates and redirects your body's own healing biology. The process begins with a small blood draw — similar in volume to a routine blood test — which is then placed in a specialised centrifuge. The centrifugation process separates the blood into its components, isolating a platelet-rich fraction that contains three to five times the normal concentration of platelets.

Why platelets? Because they are far more than simple clotting agents. Each platelet is a biological reservoir of growth factors — signalling proteins that orchestrate tissue repair, regeneration, and remodelling. The key growth factors concentrated in PRP include:

  • PDGF (Platelet-Derived Growth Factor) — stimulates cell proliferation, promotes blood vessel formation, and accelerates tissue repair processes
  • TGF-beta (Transforming Growth Factor-beta) — regulates extracellular matrix production, modulates inflammation, and promotes the synthesis of collagen and other structural proteins
  • VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor) — drives angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels, improving oxygen and nutrient delivery to treated tissue
  • EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) — stimulates cell growth and differentiation, accelerates wound healing, and promotes the turnover of skin cells

When injected into the skin — the approach sometimes called a "vampire facial" — these growth factors activate resident stem cells, stimulate fibroblast activity, and trigger new collagen production from within. The skin responds as though repairing itself, generating fresh collagen, improving vascularity, and renewing cellular architecture. For hair loss, PRP growth factors revitalise dormant follicles, extend the anagen growth phase, and improve the blood supply to each follicle — addressing the root cause of thinning rather than merely masking it.

The Power of Combination

In my practice, I frequently combine mesotherapy and PRP within a treatment programme. The rationale is straightforward: mesotherapy provides the raw materials — vitamins, minerals, amino acids, hyaluronic acid — while PRP provides the biological signalling that tells cells what to do with those materials. Together, they create an environment of both abundant resources and active regenerative stimulation. For patients seeking meaningful improvement in skin quality or hair density, this combined approach consistently delivers results that exceed what either treatment achieves alone.

Your Treatment Experience: What Each Session Involves

I believe that understanding exactly what will happen during your treatment removes unnecessary anxiety and helps you prepare properly. Here is a thorough account of what each session looks like in my clinic, from the moment you arrive to the weeks that follow.

A Mesotherapy Session

Your treatment begins with thorough cleansing of the area to be treated. A topical anaesthetic cream is then applied and left in place for twenty to thirty minutes to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. During this waiting period, I select and prepare the customised cocktail formulation based on the specific concerns we identified during your consultation — whether that is dehydration, dullness, fine lines, or scalp hair thinning.

The injections themselves are performed using either a very fine needle or a mesogun device, depending on the treatment area and your individual needs. The depth of injection ranges from one to four millimetres, targeting the mesodermal layer precisely. For a facial session, you can expect the procedure to take approximately twenty to thirty minutes. Scalp mesotherapy typically requires thirty to forty-five minutes, as the treatment area is larger and the injection technique is adapted for the thicker scalp tissue.

Immediately after treatment, you will see multiple tiny injection marks across the treated area, accompanied by mild redness and occasionally pinpoint bleeding. This is entirely normal and expected — it confirms that the product has been delivered at the correct depth.

A PRP Session

PRP treatment begins with a blood draw from your arm — approximately fifteen to twenty millilitres, which is a smaller volume than most routine blood tests. This sample is placed into a specialised medical centrifuge and spun for ten to fifteen minutes. You can watch this process; it is quite fascinating to see your blood separate into distinct layers, with the golden platelet-rich plasma clearly visible.

Once prepared, the PRP is either injected directly into the treatment area using a fine needle technique, or applied topically immediately after microneedling with a Dermapen device. This latter combination — Dermapen plus PRP — is what has become widely known as the "vampire facial." The microneedling creates thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin, allowing the PRP to penetrate deeply and uniformly. The entire session, including preparation and blood processing time, takes forty-five to sixty minutes.

Recovery Timeline

The recovery experience is similar for both treatments, with some important distinctions:

  • Day 1 — Redness, mild swelling, and tiny injection marks are visible. The skin may feel warm and slightly tender, similar to mild sunburn. Avoid touching the treated area, applying makeup, or engaging in intense exercise
  • Days 2 to 3 — Redness begins to fade noticeably. Injection marks are healing and becoming less visible. Most patients find they can apply mineral makeup by day two or three if needed
  • Week 1 — The skin normalises. With mesotherapy, many patients report a visible improvement in hydration and skin luminosity even after the first session, as the hyaluronic acid and vitamins begin working immediately
  • Weeks 4 to 6 — This is when PRP's deeper effects emerge. Collagen stimulation triggered by the growth factors begins to manifest as improved skin texture, firmness, and fine-line softening
  • Months 2 to 3 — Progressive improvement continues. Skin quality enhancement becomes clearly visible — patients often describe their skin as looking healthier and more resilient than it has in years

For hair treatments specifically, patients should understand that a temporary increase in shedding can occur in the early weeks. This is not a cause for alarm — it represents the displacement of existing weak, miniaturised hairs as the follicle resets into a healthier growth cycle. New growth typically becomes visible between months three and six, with continued improvement over the following months.

Treatment Frequency and Programmes

Meaningful results require a structured treatment programme rather than a single session. Based on the clinical evidence and my experience, I recommend the following schedules:

  • Skin mesotherapy — Monthly sessions for an initial course of four to six treatments, followed by quarterly maintenance sessions to sustain results
  • Skin PRP — Monthly sessions for three to four treatments, then once every three to six months for maintenance, depending on individual response
  • Hair PRP — Monthly sessions for four to six treatments as the initial intensive course, transitioning to maintenance sessions every three to four months once the desired improvement is achieved

During your consultation, I will outline a personalised programme based on your specific concerns, the severity of the issue being addressed, and your response to initial treatments. I adjust the plan as we progress — the schedule is a guideline, not a rigid prescription.

Safety, Suitability and Important Considerations

Patient safety is never an afterthought in my practice — it is the foundation upon which every treatment decision is built. Both mesotherapy and PRP have well-established safety profiles, but informed consent requires that you understand the potential risks, the contraindications, and the factors that influence treatment outcomes.

Mesotherapy Safety Profile

In my clinic, I use only medical-grade, pharmaceutical-quality mesotherapy cocktails sourced from reputable manufacturers with full regulatory documentation. This is a critical distinction. The safety concerns historically associated with mesotherapy have almost always involved unregulated, compounded mixtures of uncertain provenance. Pharmaceutical-grade products with established safety data and proper cold-chain storage represent an entirely different standard of care.

Because mesotherapy cocktails contain multiple active ingredients, there is a potential — albeit small — for allergic reaction to a specific component. If your medical history suggests any risk, I offer patch testing prior to your first full treatment. The common side effects of mesotherapy are temporary and predictable:

  • Bruising — occurs at some injection sites in most patients; resolves within three to seven days
  • Redness and mild swelling — a normal inflammatory response that typically subsides within twenty-four to seventy-two hours
  • Tenderness — the treated area may be sensitive to touch for one to two days following treatment

Rare complications include infection (extremely uncommon when strict sterile technique is observed), nodule formation at injection sites, and uneven distribution of product. These risks are minimised through proper technique, appropriate injection depth, and the use of quality-controlled products — all factors that depend on the training and experience of the practitioner.

PRP Safety Profile

PRP carries an inherent safety advantage: because it is autologous — derived entirely from your own blood — the risk of allergic reaction or immunological rejection is virtually zero. Your body recognises the injected material as its own, because it is. This makes PRP one of the safest injectable treatments available in aesthetic medicine.

However, PRP is not suitable for everyone. I will not perform PRP treatment if you have:

  • Active blood disorders or platelet dysfunction — conditions that affect platelet count or function compromise the quality of the PRP preparation
  • Anticoagulant therapy — blood-thinning medications interfere with platelet activation and increase bleeding risk at injection sites
  • Active cancer or undergoing cancer treatment — growth factors could theoretically stimulate unwanted cell proliferation; the precautionary principle applies
  • Active infection in the treatment area — treatment must be deferred until the infection has fully resolved
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding — as a precautionary measure, given the absence of safety data in this population

Medication use also matters. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen and aspirin inhibit platelet function and should be discontinued at least one week before your PRP session to ensure optimal platelet activity in the final preparation. I will review your medication list during consultation and advise on any necessary adjustments. Additionally, smoking significantly reduces PRP efficacy by impairing growth factor activity and compromising the microvascular response. I strongly advise patients to stop smoking before commencing a PRP treatment course — the investment in treatment deserves the best possible conditions for success.

Realistic Expectations for Hair Loss Patients

I have an important conversation with every hair loss patient before beginning treatment. PRP produces its best results in androgenetic alopecia — the common pattern of hair loss affecting both men and women — particularly when the condition is in its early to moderate stages. At these stages, the follicles are miniaturised but still present and capable of responding to growth factor stimulation. PRP is not effective for areas of complete baldness where the follicles have been permanently lost. Where no follicle exists, there is nothing for the growth factors to revitalise.

For optimal outcomes, I often recommend combining PRP with established medical therapies such as minoxidil, and where appropriate, finasteride. This multimodal approach addresses hair loss from different biological angles and consistently yields better results than any single treatment alone. I will discuss which combination is right for you during your assessment.

Why a Hospital Setting Matters

Performing mesotherapy and PRP in a regulated medical facility such as Dubai Healthcare City offers meaningful advantages. PRP preparation requires sterile blood processing — from the draw to the centrifugation to the injection. Our pharmaceutical-grade mesotherapy products are stored under proper cold-chain conditions, preserving their potency and sterility. Every step is carried out by trained medical staff following established clinical protocols. These are not cosmetic luxuries; they are baseline requirements for safe, effective treatment.

One final reassurance: both mesotherapy and PRP are safe for all Fitzpatrick skin types. Because neither treatment involves energy-based devices — no laser, no light, no radiofrequency — the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is minimal. This makes these treatments particularly well-suited to the diverse patient population I treat here in Dubai.

Clinical Evidence and References

I believe patients deserve to know that the treatments I recommend are grounded in published clinical evidence, not marketing claims. The following studies represent key references in the scientific literature supporting mesotherapy and PRP for skin rejuvenation and hair restoration.

Alam et al. (2018) conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of PRP for facial rejuvenation, published in Dermatologic Surgery. Their analysis of controlled trials demonstrated statistically significant improvements in skin texture, wrinkle severity, and overall photographic assessment scores following PRP treatment, supporting its role as an evidence-based approach to facial skin renewal.

Gentile et al. (2015) published a landmark classification of PRP preparation systems in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, establishing that the method of PRP preparation significantly affects the concentration of platelets and growth factors — and therefore clinical outcomes. This research underscores why the choice of centrifuge system and preparation protocol matters, and why standardised, validated systems produce more consistent results than ad hoc approaches.

Mammucari et al. (2011) provided an important evidence-based review of mesotherapy in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, examining the technique's pharmacokinetic advantages and clinical applications. Their work validated the core principle that intradermal injection achieves higher local tissue concentrations of active compounds compared to systemic or topical administration, confirming the biological rationale for the mesotherapy approach.

Leo et al. (2015) published a systematic review in the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology evaluating PRP for androgenetic alopecia. Their analysis found consistent evidence of increased hair density and hair diameter in PRP-treated patients compared to controls, with the most pronounced benefits observed in patients with early to moderate hair loss — findings that align closely with the outcomes I observe in my own clinical practice.

Collectively, this body of evidence supports both mesotherapy and PRP as clinically valid treatments when performed with appropriate technique, quality-controlled products, and proper patient selection. It also reinforces the importance of realistic expectations and structured treatment protocols — principles that guide every consultation in my clinic.

If you are considering mesotherapy, PRP, or a combined programme for skin rejuvenation or hair restoration, I welcome the opportunity to discuss your specific concerns in detail. A thorough consultation allows me to assess your suitability, explain the expected outcomes for your individual case, and design a treatment plan tailored to your goals. Mesotherapy & PRP FAQ

Everything patients ask before booking.

What is the difference between mesotherapy and PRP?

Mesotherapy delivers a tailored vitamin and hyaluronic cocktail; PRP delivers concentrated growth factors from your own blood. Meso feeds the skin, PRP tells it to repair — they're often combined.

Does PRP really work for hair thinning?

PRP is one of the best-evidenced non-surgical options for early hair thinning — growth factors stimulate follicles over a course of sessions. Dr. Inaam will assess honestly whether your stage of thinning will respond.

How many sessions do I need?

Typically 3–4 sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart, then maintenance every few months. Glow appears from the first session; repair builds across the course.

Is it painful?

Numbing cream makes the micro-injections very tolerable — most patients describe tiny pinpricks. The blood draw for PRP is the same as any routine test.

Is there downtime?

Small bumps or pinpoint marks for a few hours, occasionally a tiny bruise. Most patients return to normal life immediately.

Is PRP safe?

Among the safest treatments in aesthetic medicine — it's your own blood, so there is no allergy or rejection risk. Sterile single-use kits are used throughout.
